1905 Eley steam car, built in Broken Hill

Mystery No. 3 was revealed, after a good deal of hard work, as the one-off steam car built between 1902 and 1905 by the Eley brothers of Broken Hill. Read more about it in Serpolette's Tricycle No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5

When I first began building web content about old motorcycles, back in 1998, it was popular to use a small animation of a man digging accompanied by the phrase "under construction". It seems ridiculous to hark back 14 years but I will, and beg your indulgence while I get this new web site organised. There are bound to be gremlins for a little while.

My original web site Leon's Vintage Motorcycle Page was about veteran and early vintage motorcycles, a field that has given me tremendous pleasure for many years. However it was my research into Vivian Lewis and his Australian-made motorcycles The Lewis Project that kindled my interest in early motor cars. Three years editing a veteran car club magazine gave me the opportunity to broaden my interest and knowledge from early motorcycles to general motoring history, particularly in Australia.

The intention of this new web site is to bring together all aspects of Australian and New Zealand motoring history in one place. A key element is the new monthly e-zine Serpolette's Tricycle . Subscribe for free, or download it from this site.

Would you like the Serpolette's Tricycle sent to your email address each month? Just send an email to serpolette@earlymotor.com with "subscribe" as the subject, and your name and country (if outside Australia) or state (inside Australia). Your information will be kept in in strict confidence and not shared with any third party.

Plenty of other plans, but for the moment you'll have to wait to see what emerges from the mess.
